This week we are spotlighting Erin Newport, a wonderful volunteer who has been with us from the beginning. She helps our ladies learn important life skills such as meal planning and healthy eating.

In what capacity are you involved with Lily’s House and for how long have you been involved?

I have been involved with Lily’s House since the very first resident came. From helping at the shelter to leading a group on meal planning and healthy habits of eating.

What great things have you seen accomplished at Lily’s House since you’ve been involved?

Watching the girls complete the program, rebuilding relationships with family, and most importantly getting their children back.

How has serving at Lily’s House changed your life?

It has opened my eyes to the everyday struggles of others. The biggest thing is not to judge a book by its cover. Addicts have a heart on the inside, they just need guidance and a group to help them through the rough times. They want to be a better person. Watching them change makes me stop thinking about myself and instead on what I can do better to help them.

Can you give a specific example of a time when you saw something amazing happen in the life of one of our moms?

I have so many but watching Ashley rebuild her relationship with her daughter!! Beautiful time for all. Also watching her guide girls through their recovery!

What would you like people to know about Lily’s House that they might not already know?

That Lily’s House changes lives from the residents to those that volunteer. Everyone’s heart is touched.
